You've captured the mood of this old hotel beautifully with the rich colours and beautiful timber. Lovely capture Glenn!

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thank you Linda. It was a nice stairway. Bold color contrasts and varying light. Victorian architecture is my favorite. Always like seeing it preserved.

I find my eyes here going up, down, this way, and that way. And for me that makes this uniquely composed artwork all the more enjoyable! L/F

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thank you Kellice. You can't beat a Victorian stairway. Always makes statement.

Artist's Description

This is the main stairway in the St. Michael Hotel in Prescott, Arizona. Its history is seen well in the woodwork here and throughout the hotel. It is very vintage and nicely preserved. The hotel sits on the corner of Whiskey Row, across from the courthouse, and was built in 1901, replacing the Hotel Burke, which burned down in 1900. People that have stayed here include Theodore Roosevelt, Billy the Kid, Doc Holiday, the Earps, and Barry Goldwater. It is also said to be haunted.

After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. I started converting my color digital images to black and white whenever I saw them as intended for bw. I believe the eye you started with does not go away. With my newest Fujifilm digital cameras, I am shooting for b&w and...
