The wonderful P.O.V., the rhythm of lines and shapes, the wonderful color balance, the symmetry. . . the results? Absolutely SPLENDID! L/F

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thank you Kellice. I've been here a number of times but never stood in this spot to see this. Always something new to see if you look around. Glad you like it.

Terrific shot! Your tight cropping shows off the textures and wonderful form of the roof. Great thinking adding that line Glenn, it would be a shame to crop the peak of the building. L/F

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thanks very much Linda. I think it's the first time I've added a border for framing, but I like the black border on it's own too. I used to print my bw images using a black border negative holder. Takes me back to my darkroom days. It's an odd thing to shoot with framing in mind. It changes what is seen, even if only a little.

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thanks John. I've gone here for years and I still see new things.

Artist's Description

This great barn is from a place I visit at least a few times every year, Historic Batsto Village. It is a nationally recognized historic site, traced back to 1766, and located in Wharton State Forest in Southern New Jersey.

I have added a quarter inch black border to this image because it is tightly framed. This will allow for matting without cropping out part of the image, such as the roof peak.Seeing the black border now, I like it.

About Glenn DiPaola

I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. I started converting my color digital images to black and white whenever I saw them as intended for bw. I believe the eye you started with does not go away. With my newest Fujifilm digital cameras, I am shooting for b&w and...
