This is one of the preserved buildings in Historic Smithville, New Jersey. A fine thought on someone's part to sculpt this tree into a blank canvas of stucco complimenting the symmetry of the architecture. It was great to turn a corner and see this.
I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. Glenn, This is simply incredible and the B&W really accentuates the details. The balance and symmetry are wonderful....what a great find. As always, excellent photography. Nicely done. l/f
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thanks very much Deb. Someone had a good thought to do this. I was back in Smithville about a month ago and did not get to this area. Next time.

Karen Slagle
Love the starkness of b/w in this fabulous image, Glenn...Thath's pretty cool how someone sculpted that neat tree. f/l
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thank you Karen. I thought the same thing. Someone looked at this wall and thought, I know exactly what it needs. Great thought.
Linda Lees
B&w is perfect for this wonderful minimalist image Glenn, lovely work! L/F
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thank you Linda. I was just in your portfolio for another look at your minimalist collection. No surprise this drew you in. There wasn't much tone in the color version, but you are right, had to be black and white.
Connie Handscomb
The stark symmetry of this black & white appeals to me, Glenn.... Life in Balance.. :))
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thanks Connie. Life in balance to be sure. That's an expression I've had myself for many years. It was a movie in the 80's, Koyaanisqatsi, which translates to life out of balance. Of course having that thought leads to an awareness and appreciation of balance and symmetry. BW shows that best in most cases. Obviously, the creator of this great visual felt the same way.
Sunil Kapadia

Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thanks very much Sunil. I thought it was a great thing for someone to do.
