Standing inside the Tower of London I got to enjoy another iconic structure in that city. I don't know how most Londoners feel about this building but I know not all of them favor it.That is not uncommon with architecture - lots of opinions. It stands approximately 1,014 feet (309 metres) high and was completed in November 2012.
I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. Wonderful image of the Shard - love the composition and tones you’ve captured here in this evening scene. Great work! L/F
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thank you. This was a good moment, capturing that light and sky. We were late getting to the Tower and were shooting as fast as we could. At this point the staff were getting us all to leave.

The framing of the scene by the tree with its few sparse leaves is beautiful, as is that wonderful sky! Great contrast of the old and new architecture of London too. L/F
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thanks you Linda. I was lucky to get these images from inside the Tower. We got there late and were running around, trying to avoid the Beefeaters. They were leading everyone to the gates at closing time. I have not seen many of The Shard from this perspective.

This is so beautiful, Glenn!! Love the framing with the trees and leaves, and great exposure work!! Love the sky, too!!! :)))vf
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thanks very much Laurie. I was very happy to be standing in a place where I could contrast nature and very old architecture against modern day conventions. The sky was nice that day.

Terrific! There's so much here, Glenn .. the old & the new architecture ; the small old light in the foreground & the enormous modern one in the background ; a fabulous blend of oh so lovely! sky hues, light to dark ..natural tree vs man made structures .. a juxtaposition of history, you've got a country's timeline in one capture.. so cleverly done:))
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thank you very much for such wonderful observations. We decided to take a boat ride to get here and lost time to that trip - without regret - but it gave us little time to go through this amazing place. Those people on the wall are being shown to the gates but I kept running in the shadows to escape the Beefeaters from tossing me out so I could capture this light and juxtaposition. It was remarkable to see all this in one place. London is such a great city.
