This is a macro image of a sunflower in a vase on a table. I did a series of flower close ups and did a lot of work on the variations. It surprised me how small changes could make such big differences, like becoming a metaphor for a sunrise, as the sun rises! They are great flowers.
These images, and others like it, are included in my Large Graphics Collection, a series of themed images offering dynamic impact in larger spaces.
I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. I started converting my color digital images to black and white whenever I saw them as intended for bw. I believe the eye you started with does not go away. Sitting on my kitchen counter at the moment is a packet of sunflowers seeds. A gardening show I was watching on TV said it was time to plant them. Lovely series Glenn! This one shows the fabulous detail of the centre of these impressive flowers. L/F
