I would never have thought that this guitar was as old as it is, it must have been quite a progressive design when first made. Wonderful composition and lighting Glenn! L/F

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thank you very much Linda. The design is pure art deco, which is a favorite of mine. Great that they paired it with the violin. This image, and 3 other instrument images, are all in my area of the house where I have my own instruments. This remains my favorite of the 4.

This is so gorgeous and elegant, Glenn!! Beautiful composition and lighting!! Excellent work, my friend!!!! :))))vf

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thanks very much Laurie. I have never tired of seeing this image on my wall. The 4 instrument images I capture in this great place were a bit of a challenge. I was so happy when I got home and saw they all worked out as hoped for.

Wow! Love how this image was captured. The partial instrument on the right accents the main one.

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thanks very much Dee. This is my favorite image from my Nashville work. It was a good pairing from the museum folks. Nice that you chose this one as I just printed it at 20" today for the first time. Looks great big. I'm going to put 3 or 4 of my Nashville instrument images up on the wall in the room where I have my guitars.

Thanks Sandi. I really like the way these look, so art deco. I've never played with one though.

V. Thanks for the history about his guitar. I love the design elements in it. Interesting lighting.

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thanks Linda. I have seen these over the years, but as you point out, the lighting was too good to pass on. I liked it next to the old violin too. I could shoot a few more comps on the National - it is great design.

Artist's Description

From the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN, this guitar was inspired by Hawaiian guitar music. Bonnie Dodd played this steel-bodied National resonator guitar in the 1930's. The instrument has a tri-cone resonator system that makes it several times louder than a standard acoustic guitar. It is my favorite image from my Nashville work.

About Glenn DiPaola

Glenn DiPaola

I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. I started converting my color digital images to black and white whenever I saw them as intended for bw. I believe the eye you started with does not go away. With my newest Fujifilm digital cameras, I am shooting for b&w and...
