The DoF here is terrific; I love the woods, & love ferns, so there is great appeal for my eye here. I'm constantly trying to capture the beauty of these plants, their fronds ... rarely satisfied, so I keep trying (I'm never completely satisfied with my photography; always feel it can be better ... so out I go again) & here you have an image with superb clarity in just the right places on the fronds, rich deep hues : well done, Glenn! :))

Glenn DiPaola replied:

Thanks much Connie. Looks like we have a few things in common. Woods are good. You are right about ferns. They will often seem to be working when you shoot them, but then that special quality that drew you in is not quite there. Not so here. That is how I saw it and I too like the way this turned out. I was on this path again about 3 weeks ago and these were not there. I do have another set of ferns from another woods taken in November that I never posted. Different than these but still intriguing. I should revisit those images.

I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. I started converting my color digital images to black and white whenever I saw them as intended for bw. I believe the eye you started with does not go away. With my newest Fujifilm digital cameras, I am shooting for b&w and...
