This is one of a series of abstract images I created in Whitesbog, New Jersey on a winter’s day. This image shows aged wood in a wonderful way. Long boards can have many patterns. Always a challenge to pick only some of them when they are all special. This version is printed in the 16:9 format.
Whitesbog is an history village in the Pine Barrens, which encompasses a million acres of South Jersey. The primary product Whitesbog produces on its 3,000 acres is cranberries. Among a number of features, it also has blueberry fields and the historic buildings that I am showing here.
These images, and others like it, are included in my Large Graphics Collection, a series of themed images offering dynamic impact in large spaces. I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. Thanks very much Robert. You caught this one while it's fresh. My recent journey into the macro world is creating a lot of different images for me. I always liked abstract, but this is a different type of abstract for me. It has been fun venturing into these little worlds.
